 2018 Preview 


       Shoals Christian finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Shoals Christian finished sixth in Class 1A region eight with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The defense allowed a team record 480 points last season.

       Shoals Christian was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Flame want to be competitive. They only averaged 17.8 points a game.

       Shoals Christian struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 48.0 points a game.

       Since 2010, Shoals Christian has gone a combined 34-53. Their 39.0% winning percentage ranks 38th in Class 1A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 20 seasons, Shoals Christian has managed to compile a record of 87-110. Their 44.0% winning percentage ranks 32nd in Class 1A and 248th in the AHSAA.




       The Flame will be under the direction of new head football coach Nick Flanagan as they enter the 2018 season.

       Coach Flanagan's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 19-14 (57.6%). Over the course of his career, Coach Flanagan's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times .

       The Shoals Christian Flame will play in Class 1A region eight during the 2018 season.

       This season, the Flame will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region eight.

       The Flame open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Tharptown on Friday, August 24. Last year the Tharptown Wildcats finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in seventh place in Class 1A region eight. The Wildcats closed out the regular season with a loss to Decatur Heritage Christian by a score of 55-0.

       Shoals Christian and Tharptown have met a total of 15 times on the football field. The Flame have a 9-6-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2017 with Tharptown winning by a score of 38-28.
